The premature death of Edward IV led to a national crisis in which Richard emerged as king. With the benefit of hindsight historians generally have interpreted the fateful events of 1483 in the light of Richard being a calculating usurper.
Yep, yep, we know the story. Between usurping power and winters of discontent, Richard is *the* villain.
